From 1 January 2019, the police will have the insured vehicles file at their disposal. The implementation of this file has been clarified by Decree No. 2018-644 of 20 July 2018.
Thus, the police will be able to consult this file and know immediately if a vehicle is well insured, with which company and for which period. The consultation is done through automatic license plate readers.
A fine of 500 € is applied in case of failure and 7,500 € in case of recidivism.
