Published in the Official Journal in July, this text provides for a legal framework applicable from September 2022 to authorize the circulation of autonomous vehicles in France.
Until now, the Highway Code only provided for the case of a vehicle driven by a person and autonomous vehicles escaped any legal framework. This adaptation will allow approved vehicles to circulate on predefined routes.
The Minister for Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, announces:
“France is establishing itself as one of the first countries to adapt its law to autonomous vehicles. We are now giving our manufacturers and transport operators the visibility they need to develop them - and in the future, keep them running. "
