CEREMA is experimenting with a new overload detection system for trucks, with commissioning scheduled for 2021.
Experimentation by the Center for Studies and Expertise on Risks, the Environment, Mobility and Development (CEREMA) takes place on the A4 and needs momentarily the presence of gendarmes.
But in the future the system will be fully automatic with photo of the truck in violation. Weighing is done by means of piezoelectric sensors inserted into the roadway.
The aim is to reduce overload infringements as they cause premature deterioration of motorways and promote unfair competition between motor carriers.
