Storm Caetano caused heavy snowfall, paralysing traffic in the Montbéliard region. Hundreds of trucks and around a hundred light vehicles were trapped by the bad weather. At the height of the episode, up to 800 trucks and around a hundred cars were immobilised.
Despite the intervention of the gendarmerie and motorway services, clearance operations are progressing slowly due to difficult weather conditions. Since late Thursday morning, between 5 and 10 cm of snow has fallen, with local accumulations reaching 15 to 20 cm in the departments placed on orange alert, including Doubs, Haute-Saône, Territoire de Belfort and Haut-Rhin.
This Friday, November 22, the situation remains critical with many heavy goods vehicles still stuck. In Doubs, it is now estimated that 5,000 trucks are affected by these disruptions.
