These innovative panels, manufactured by Paccar Parts, DAF's parent company, offer an environmentally friendly and economical solution for hauliers.
The solar panels, available in two sizes, are designed to maximize the use of available truck space. The smaller version, measuring just 3 mm thick and 110 x 30 cm, weighs 700 g and uses 16 cells to produce 55 Wp. The larger version doubles these dimensions and power, offering installation flexibility and increased efficiency.
Thanks to their self-adhesive and flexible design, these panels can conform to the curves of roofs and deflectors, making them easy to install. The captured solar energy is converted and sent directly to the vehicle's battery, where it can be stored or used immediately. This technology allows drivers to reduce fuel consumption, lower CO2 emissions, and limit wear and tear on the dynamo and battery.
In practice, three small solar panels, producing a total of 165 Wp, are enough to power common appliances such as a coffee machine, microwave oven, or television, without having to start the engine. This innovation offers carriers increased energy autonomy and reduced operational costs, while also contributing to environmental protection.
