Directive 2022/2561 on the initial qualification and continuous training of road transport drivers was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on December 23 and entered into force on January 12, 2023. It aims to guarantee a minimum level training for drivers of road transport vehicles in the Member States, including for operations carried out with the vehicle stationary.

Member countries must require a certificate of professional competence attesting to the initial qualification and continuous training of drivers in matters of road safety, defensive driving and efficient driving. The courses must be provided by training centers approved by the competent authorities of the Member States and apply to drivers of all nationalities working for companies established in a Member State.
