European construction projects deemed too costly

News of the 17/06/2020

The European Court of Auditors has just published a report which points to the pharaonic cost of eight major European projects such as the Lyon-Turin rail tunnel for example.

Initially valued at 54 billion euros, these projects gradually saw the total cost increase by 17 billion euros. The budget for the Lyon-Turin rail tunnel alone tripled and fell 15 years behind schedule.

The European institution also expresses serious doubts about the economic viability of some of them who have traffic forecasts far too optimistic according to it.
