Massive check of LCVs in the south: 169 offences detected in two and a half hours

News of the 13/12/2024

An article in La Provence highlights a large-scale control operation carried out by the Aix-en-Provence gendarmerie to combat non-compliant delivery drivers. According to Lieutenant-Colonel Espinasse, head of the departmental company, this initiative aims to counter the practices of unscrupulous delivery drivers.

Results of the checks

In just two and a half hours, near the Amazon warehouse, the police noted 169 violations this year, compared to 65 in 2023. The violations noted include:

  • Failure to present or lack of driving license, registration document or insurance
  • Driving with bald tires or in poorly maintained or even dangerous vehicles
  • Failures concerning control booklets or employment contracts
  • Driving under the influence of narcotics or possession of narcotics
  • Arrest of a driver registered in the wanted persons file

Justification of the operation

Lieutenant Colonel Espinasse explained that this operation is necessary to combat unfair competition from non-compliant delivery companies. “Unhealthy companies constitute a kind of unfair competition with respect to companies that respect the law. Many delivery companies are healthy and offer a quality approach. This represents an investment undermined by unscrupulous companies and delivery people,” he said.
