Since 10am this morning, torrential rains have been falling on Lyon and its region, causing a red alert in the Rhône. Unfortunately, this alert was triggered too late. The tributaries of the Gier have overflowed, flooding all the roads leading to Givors, including the A47.
On this motorway, 150 motorists had to be evacuated from their vehicles, while the truckers, stuck upstream, remain protected for the moment by their trucks. However, the water level has already reached 50 to 60 cm, and the situation could get worse. Indeed, a dike of the Gier in Givors is submerged and risks giving way, which would further complicate the rescue operations, already slowed down by huge traffic jams.
