Spain adopts remote control of tachograph

News of the 16/08/2024

According to the latest Inodis newsletter, Catalonia has recently acquired eight DSRC devices. Contrary to what some media outlets might report, these devices are not intended to detect infractions, but to remotely detect anomalies on trucks equipped with tachographs in circulation since June 15, 2019. Their objective is to sort heavy goods vehicles to decide whether they should be subject to a road check.

Spain thus becomes the eighth country to equip itself with this technology before the obligation of August 19. A second piece of equipment, installed in particular in La Jonquera and coupled with a plate reader, will detect overloads and non-compliant emissions. This type of gantry, proposed by a company from the South-West, is currently in the process of being approved in France.

According to information gathered from the Dreal, it seems that France is considering acquiring equipment per region, due to the cost and feedback from regions that have already experimented with the DSRC. However, our sources do not yet have information on the selected provider.
