The EU must find a quick solution for heavy goods vehicle parking

News of the 17/11/2023

The EU road transport sector is calling on European legislators to agree to facilitate the construction of secure HGV car parks. These car parks are essential to guarantee decent working conditions for road drivers, who must respect strict rules regarding driving and rest times.

The project is part of the revision of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) Regulation, which aims to develop transport infrastructure across Europe. The Iru (International Road Transport Union) and the ETF (European Road Transport Workers' Federation) support the initiative, which has already received the approval of the European Parliament. On the other hand, the European Council seems reluctant to commit to this issue, which is slowing down the implementation of the necessary changes by Member States.
