The reconstruction of the Genoa bridge is completed but questions remaining

News of the 31/07/2020

The Morandi Bridge will be reopened on August 5 to motorists, stress tests are underway and construction has not met the recommendations of experts.

Two years after its collapse that left 43 people dead, the Morandi Bridge in Genoa has just been rebuilt in record time. However, its location and route are strictly identical, contrary to the opinions issued by several experts.

Last Monday, 56 semi-trailers weighing 44 tonnes each made a pass to test the construction. They were positioned at different places on the bridge to cause a twist. Five more tests are planned before opening to traffic.

The new top speed is 80 km / h unlike 90 before.
