The year 2020 is special at all levels due to the health crisis and this is also the case for freight thieves who have adapted their behavior.
First of all, it is the target of thieves that has evolved: in addition to the usual goods, we find a large proportion of protective masks, hydroalcoholic gels and vaccines according to a study conducted jointly by the insurer TT Club and the British BSI institute.
Then the health crisis led to a sharp increase in distance selling but also caused bottlenecks through the regulations of the various countries (border control, port activities, etc.). These slowdowns have therefore led to the creation of temporary storage points that are less well controlled than traditional warehouses and thus 45% of goods are stolen in these areas compared to only 18% in 2019.
