Vienna: ban on trucks without blind spot sensor

This is a first, the Austrian capital has just implemented a law prohibiting the movement of trucks over 7.5 tonnes without electronic blind spot assistant from April 15.

The Austrian directive also specifies that the electronic device fitted to the truck cannot be a simple camera, it must absolutely be linked to an alarm signal (acoustic or visual).

The ban follows an upsurge in fatal accidents involving trucks which has angered residents.

You should know that this equipment costs around 3000 €. The city subsidizes up to € 900 for its nationals.
